It appears OLH and its cohorts will/may be fixed in GU51, slated for sometime in January 2009.

Until then it's group healing, EoF Style. Someone handcuff the druids to their gaming PCs. *grin*

I can't answer in terms of raiding, as I have not had time to raid in a while.
In regular instance runs, OLH accounted for about 20% - 22% of my healing output as an inquisitor, depending on situation. Now it is at about 8%.

This is a big deal due to our incredibly slow cast times and power management issues. If I am single healing, I now have to pull out all my tricks to keep the group up.

I hope they will really fix the proc and not mess it up in some other way.

I ran one of the runs against the twins in OLH gear (dropping my heal crit % stuff). Three 320HP OLH items did worse than Mark, Involuntary Heals or Combat Glory. (Then I took off my OLH for heal crit gear and we beat the twins... coincidence?)

Originally, OLH would only be surpassed by the primary single ward/reactive and the primary group ward/reactive. Now OLH can't even muster half the healing of my passive heals.

What is Overloaded Heal?

Overloaded Heal and it's similar cousins (such as the Soulfire Proc), procs approximately 3.4 times per minute on beneficial spells and heals the group ~340 each.

All during RoK, each time a target gets healed it would trigger a chance to proc. Therefore, one group heal would grant a chance to proc for each person healed, each pet healed, etc. So, a group ward could theoretically also heal 6x340 dmg on each player. (which became true with defilers, since the proc rate scaled with the slower spells). Some procs were AoE too and healed the whole raid.

Now, the nerf made it so that it only has one chance to proc per spell cast - independent of the number of characters/pets healed. Inadvertently, the new code broke the proc so that it no longer procs off of Wards, Reactives, Regens, Special Heals, Emergency Heals, etc. Overloaded Heal presently only procs off of the single small direct hp heal, the single large direct hp heal, and the group hp heal.

It's hard to complain about - This is how it was during Echoes of Faydwer (including the Emerald Halls). It just was welcome because it took a tremendous amount of stress off the healers (I.E. Segmented Rumbler & Woushi being two horrible healer battles from EH). It also inadvertently murdered the Warden's usefulness in raids too.

OLH was definately overpowered - there was a reason that every raid temp/inq wore the Battlepriest's Plate Greaves (faction purchase in JW) over class-specific plate legs. It's the same reason we all gasped if someone told us to get rid of our Yha-lei Bone Hoops. But I'm definately going to take those off of Ana as soon as I find replacements - preferably with Heal Crit. Heal Crit is where its at now, I think.

Overloaded Heal was overpowered, but all it really did was allow average geared players the ability to show up upper-tier raiders and forced them to quest to become competitive. Questing players suddenly had the ability to become splendid healers.

What I did enjoy was the change in the 4 (arguably 10) year old tried and true healing mechanics to provide healers with alternative ways to heal (for example, Overflow for offensive-based healers) and the ready availability of these new items to configure different "load-outs" for raid & group healers than "maximum healing/defense."

Now, at least for Clerics, the Runed Etched Helm and Ethereal Mist Gauntlets have been an absolute must have. And now we scramble for the conveniently laid out +heal crit% gear dangled in front of our noses too.

I detest having "absolute must have" items like Epic Weapons, or key class items. You spend years on a character to try to make them different and unique and in the end they are forced to strive to become the same as their peers.

When will these game designers learn....
